Bigger Ipoh Airport and Commuter Service from Ipoh to Penang?

If you are a Penangnite or an Ipohian, this piece of development plan by the government will get you excited. If it really materialises, I could just imagine the tremendous growth in the area. The youngsters from Ipoh would no longer be everywhere except in Ipoh.

By the way, if you are wondering what is Ipoh, Ipoh is the capital of Perak state, a beautiful city well-known for its limestone caves, bougainvillea flowers and pretty girls. Hahaha :P

Also, it is also known as a food paradise for gourmets who loves the simple yet tasty dish. The famous bean sprout (also known as taugeh in hokkien dialect or nga choi in cantonese dialect) which is crunchy and juicy due to the clean water from the hills.

There was this saying that the girls who grew up in Ipoh are prettier because the water they drink are cleaner. How true is that, I can’t ascertain it. Anyway, I would agree that most Ipoh girls are prettier. :P

Besides that, there’s also the local specialties such as pomelo, heong peng (literally translated as fragrant biscuit), loh poh peng (wife’s biscuit) and many other types of pastries.

Just hop by Ipoh if you really want to discover all the different types of food the place could offer.

Oh before I get too long-winded, I think I’d better leave you to continue reading the piece of news I wanted to highlight. Might help in your decision-making if you are looking at buying properties or houses in Ipoh.

IPOH, June 29 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced
today that the government will upgrade the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport here
and establish a commuter train service between Ipoh and Penang.
The prime minister said the two projects would spur development in the
Kinta Valley.
“We’ll extend the runway. We need to have a better airport,” he told
reporters after attending a luncheon with state government and Barisan
Nasional leaders, department heads and Umno veterans at a hotel here before
concluding his one-day visit to Perak.
Abdullah said the airport would be expanded and eventually used by
Malaysia Airlines’ low-fare subsidiary, Firefly.
However, he did not say when the projects would start.
The state government and several groups, especially those representing
Perak tourism and manufacturing sectors, have been clamouring for the
airport to be upgraded to enable it to accomodate bigger aircraft.
The Transport Ministry has previously suggested that the airport be
used as a hub for low-cost carriers for the northern region and Asia.
The Perak government has also indicated its willingness to fork out
RM40 million to upgrade the airport if there were guarantees that the
facility would be used for domestic and international flights.
