PENANG: More innovatively designed properties catering to the upper income group and overseas investors will be exhibited at this year’s Star Property & Home Fair 2007.
Henry Butcher Malaysia director Dr Teoh Poh Huat said in an interview yesterday that big projects planned for Penang such as the Second Penang Bridge, monorail, and the Penang Outer Ring Road had attracted several Kuala Lumpur developers to launch high-end landed residential properties on the island.
The three-day Star Property & Home Fair at the Penang International Sports Arena (PISA) here starts tomorrow. Henry Butcher Malaysia (Penang) is the technical consultant for the event organised by The Star.
Dr Teoh said Malaysia Airlines, in collaboration with Henry Malaysia (Penang), was bringing in about 200 overseas investors from Britain, Hong Kong, and the neighbouring countries to visit the fair under its special Golden Holidays package.
He said one of the highlights of the event was the auctioning of 32 residential and commercial properties on the island with prices ranging between RM50,000 and RM6mil.
“These are properties voluntarily put on auction by their owners. This is unlike the properties auction that we held last year,” he said.
Dr Teoh said about 70% of the properties at the exhibition comprised residential types.
Real Estate and Housing Developers Association (Penang) chairman Datuk Jerry Chan Fook Sing said the time was right for property investment in Penang.
“We are seeing many infrastructure projects being put in place that have helped the value of properties here to appreciate.
“We expect the price of properties to continue rising due to the high cost of land on the island, raw materials and labour.
“Property fairs serve as an important venue for buyers to survey all that is available in the market,” he said.
More than 50 exhibitors are taking up more than 140 booths to showcase their latest property projects, home financing packages and other products in the property exhibition.
Another 43 exhibitors are taking up more than 70 booths at the home fair, displaying among others, the latest smart security home systems, home theatre systems, home appliances, interior decorations and outdoor furniture.
There will also be 19 talks on a wide range on issues related to the property market.
